Our supporters tell us that Waste Nott is more than just a shop – it’s a community which brings together people who care about sustainability. And some of our customers travel miles to support refill shopping.
Today, we’re celebrating two special customers, welcoming new volunteers, introducing some exciting products, and sharing some great news coverage.
💚Going the extra mile

While many of our customers are local, we’re aware of others who travel some distance to shop at Waste Nott. Janice and Keith Jackson make a regular trip by bus from Ravenshead, not just for their own shopping, they also take orders from others in their neighbourhood.
Green lifestyles
Campaigners for Greenpeace and Friends of the Earth since the 1970s, Janice and Keith have been pioneering green lifestyle habits for decades.
“We like Waste Nott because you think as we do,” says Janice. “You’re reducing plastic. Plus a lot of the produce is organic.”
They also value the face‑to‑face interaction that’s so often missing from supermarket shopping. “It’s like shops used to be,” adds Janice. “When we come into the shop we know we’ll get to chat to people with similar values to us.”
Eco accolades
Janice and Keith, along with their friend Andrea, lead the eco team at St Peter’s Church in Ravenshead, where they run a repair café and encourage recycling. Their efforts helped the church earn a silver Eco Church award.
They promoted Waste Nott at their church summer fair and now collect containers and take orders from five regular customers and are encouraging more to join them.
“It’s hard to get people to change their habits, it can be a slow process, but it’s good to see people starting to adopt this way of shopping. Even small actions help,” adds Janice.

We were pleased to welcome Lynette Pinchess, food and drink writer to the shop. She spent time chatting with our team and customers to find out what Waste Nott is all about – and even sampled some of our products.

🤝 Meet our new volunteers
Since our recent callout we’re thrilled to welcome two new volunteers to our team

Linnette first felt inspired to volunteer after shopping at a similar zero‑waste outlet in Brighton. Now a photographer and teacher at an alternative provision in Arnold, she joined Waste Nott because she believes in our ethos and is keen to reduce plastic waste.
Shared values
“I value the whole concept behind the shop and by supporting it I feel like I’m giving something back. I also like how Waste Nott donates profits to Framework and foodbanks,” says Linnette.
“I really enjoyed my first shift! The volunteers were really friendly; I discovered even more about the array of products available; my training was thorough; and I was impressed at how well‑organised everything is within the shop.”

Eva was aware of the shop through living locally, and decided to volunteer as a way to ease back into work after some health challenges last year. She feels that Waste Nott aligns with her own interests.
“I’m keen to learn and implement ways we can adapt our lifestyles for the future, which overlaps a lot with zero waste principles,” says Eva. “I also wanted to find community with people who’ve been doing these things longer than me!”
A warm welcome
Like many new volunteers, Eva was initially a little nervous about getting to grips with the refill system, but felt reassured by the warm, friendly welcome she’s received at the shop.
“I’ve felt welcomed and encouraged ever since my first shift. There’s a relaxed atmosphere and I’m enjoying getting to know the staff, volunteers and regulars.”
Thank you!
Thank you to all our customers and volunteers for your support. If you’re interested in joining our friendly team of volunteers, get in touch!
